On Tuesday, January 24, 2022, United States Representative George Santos inserted himself right in the middle of the evolving classified material crisis by sharing that he just found documents with classification markings in his own basement.
Santos waved the alleged documents above his head as he spoke to our reporters, although he declined to share what exactly they were.
“They are Classified,” he said. “So, I won’t tell you. Or anybody else. That is the kind of person I am. Trustworthy and honest.”
A high resolution camera of a newspaper reporter was able to capture an image that showed Santos holding a folder with the word “Clasifaid” handwritten in red marker as he carried the documents back to his house. Another image from a security camera installed surreptitiously by the FBI near his home appeared to show him placing papers inside this folder earlier that day. The papers were not clearly readable, but appeared at a first glance to be unpaid parking tickets.
George Santos, also known as Anthony Zabrovsky to his Jewish Donors, as well as Eula Rochard from his former days as a drag queen in Brazil, denies any intentional wrongdoing with the alleged classified materials, and has positioned his upfront confession about them as a clear sign of his honesty and innocence.
